On this trip we will travel to the small, safe, rural community of Ban Kho which is a close-knit community located at the base of a small mountain in the Isaan region of Thailand. Together with the community members we will help build a multipurpose court at the Ban Kho School which also serves children from neighboring communities.
The community is low-income but fosters a safe environment for kids to play and grow. Currently at the school there is a dirt area with two broken hoops where the kids play. The concrete court will allow kids to play even in the rainy season when the area would be just mud.
We will stay in the community temple and sleep on mattresses on the floor. We will work hands-on and side-by-side with the locals and eat delicious, authentic Thai food. During the whole trip we will be fully immersed in the Thai culture learning local traditions, customs, dances, beliefs, and way of life.
It is important to note that this court will be built with the community not for the community. The community members of Ban Kho, local leaders, and a Peace Corps Volunteer living there are all very motivated to make this court a reality and from the beginning they have been the driving factor planning this project to see it come to fruition.
